Fine for filing your income tax return late or not at all
The tax authorities can raise a fine if you didn't file your tax return or filed it too late. You can also get a fine if you don't pay in time or don't pay the entire tax claim.
Amount of the fine
The maximum amount of the fine for not filing or filing late has been raised since January 1, 2010 from € 1,134 to € 4,920. If it is the first time that you file late or not at all, the fine is € 226. The second time the fine is raised to € 984. From the third time the fine is raised to € 4,920.
As you can see the penalties are very high. Too high in our opinion. But it does emphasize the importance that your tax return is filed in time. If you know you need more time ask the tax authorities for a time extension
. Expatax can also arrange this for you. If you don't know how to prepare the tax return ask our assistance. We will gladly help you. See www.expatax.nl/taxreturn
for our procedure.
