When will I receive the final tax assessment from the Dutch tax authorities?

When will I receive the final (definitive) tax assessment from the tax authorities?
Officially the tax authorities must issue a definitive tax assessment within 3 years after the end of the tax year. If you arranged a time extension for filing the tax return these 3 years will be extended with the lenght of the time extension.
The State Secretary of Finance has made a proposal to change this period of 3 years to 15 months from the date the tax return is filed. This way you may have the final decision earlier.
Be aware that in standard situations the tax authorities will not need 3 years to issue a definitive tax assessment. Normally it will take less than a year.
You should receive a provisional tax assessment after 3 - 6 months. It is possible that you receive it earlier, in some situations it can take longer (a foreign situation can delay the procedure).
