Checklist buying a property
1 Check your status - EU citizens have an automatic right of residence in another EU member country .
2 Non-EU citizens can still be successful but with harder criteria.
3 You will need:
- A full long-term work contract
- A letter of intent from your employer if you have a temporary contract
- A residency permit (best is class 1) with full working permit (when you are an EU citizen you will have it)
- A "reasonable" amount of savings when you don't have a permanent residency permit
- Sufficient income to meet the mortgage repayments.

5 Now go and find your house.
6 Make an offer which should be subject to valuation and suitable finance from which a purchase contract can be produced (koopakte).
7 Application can then proceed
