In which situations are you entitled to a tax refund in the Netherlands?

Question:

In which situations are we entitled to a tax refund? We pay wage taxes and social security through our employer, we do not have any other form of income and we don‘t own a house.

In previous years we never received a tax invitation, but we always filed the tax form electronically and then later received a letter stating we didn‘t owe anything. Is there any possibility we can receive a refund in these cases?

Answer:

If you could not claim a deduction and you worked for an employer the whole year who has withheld the right amount of wage tax and premiums social security then the result of the tax return should indeed be zero.

In what situations could you be entitled to a refund?

It is also possible to claim a provisional refund for the above mentioned deductions.
