Do I get any benefit if I became unemployed voluntary?

Question:

I live and work in the Netherlands. 3 months ago I decided to leave my employer and I took voluntary redundancy and have been unable to find employment. Am I entitled to benefit in the Netherlands? Thanks.

Answer:

If you took redundancy voluntary then you are (in principle) not entitled to unemployment benefit. If you don’t have any income only option would be to contact the municipality for support. But this is on absolute minimum level. So finding a job is important or you can try to become self employed. Besides that you can check if you qualify for certain (tax) allowances.
