Can I file a tax return if I only have a sofinumber and not a BSN?

I have worked 1 year with sofi number in Amsterdam. I am leaving the Netherlands and would like to claim a tax refund. Is it possible with only a sofinumber ( I do not have a BSN)?

Sofinumber and BSN are the same numbers, just a different name. However, a BSN can be used for more registrations besides the registration with the tax authorities.

A BSN is issued by the municipality when you register at the local town hall. Before 2014 a sofinumber was issued by the tax authorities if you were not registered in the Netherlands. Nowadays sofinumbers are no longer provided, only BSN (for residents and non residents).

So you can indeed file a tax return following the standard procedures if you only have a sofinumber.

Expatax can assist you with filing a tax return.
